2019 NAIA National Championship - Keiser University Women's Soccer Team

2019 National Championship

The 2019 season marked Keiser’s second consecutive appearance in the NAIA national title game. In 2018, the Seahawks fell to William Carey University 2-0. Ironically, their only loss in the 2019 season also came against then-No. 1 William Carey in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Determined to make history, the Keiser Women’s Soccer Team returned to Orange Beach unbeaten in conference play and validated their No. 1 ranking by securing the program’s first-ever national championship.

With two first-half goals from Tova Nilsson and Matilda Ovenberger, the Seahawks defeated No. 13 Marian 2-0 to claim the title. A monumental achievement for the top-ranked team!

2019 Season Recap

The Keiser Seahawks wrapped up a historic 2019 season with a program-best 24 victories and their first-ever NAIA National Championship, becoming the first team in the Sun Conference to win a national title in women’s soccer.

The Seahawks dominated the season, finishing as Sun Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions while remaining unbeaten in conference play. Their only loss came in overtime against then-No. 1 and former national champion, William Carey. Undeterred, KU went on an incredible 22-game winning streak, culminating in their second straight appearance in the national title game.

Additional highlights of the season include:

  • A remarkable 8-1-0 record against teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
  • Nina Haeberlin breaking the program record for career shutouts with 25, including 14 in the 2019 season.

The 2019 Seahawks solidified their place in history as a dominant force in NAIA women’s soccer.
